Last week we completed several midyear assessments. We will use this data
to evaluate achievement and plan for goals for the second semester. Please
look over the word wall check and the math tests being sent home this week, this will help you know what areas to practice with your child over the break. On Thursday of last week police officer Carrington, a UAF student, and teacher joined our class. They were here to present the “I Know I Can” program. Each student received a free book, which some students choose to keep in their book box at school. Second graders also created a postcard expressing their future career interest. WOW, were our helpers impress with our student's career choices. The short list included a herpetologist, engineer, illustrator, and paleontologist!
Please continue to do plenty of reading over the 2-week break. If you would like to
borrow books from our class library, please ask, call or email! Your second grader is
welcome to select some for home reading. When we return in January, the second
universal screening will take place. This district-wide testing is used to measure
each student’s reading and math progress. There is very clear evidence between
reading at home and achievement scores. Help us to insure that our kids are successful!
