In Language Arts we have continued our author study of Donald Crews. We have observed how be puts himself in the illustrations, and how his stories take place outside. We the structures for "read to self", using our strategies for finding "good fit books". We wrote our word wall words to practice letter formation and used wiki sticks for the tactile learner. Our first word wall check was on Friday and although many were successful, most of the class still needs time to practice these words. We will continue with the same list for another week and recheck on Friday 5th.
Our new enVision MATH has focused on making numbers to 8. Friday I used an "exit slip" to check for understanding on making 7. Look for this sheet to come home on Tuesday. We also learned to play "monster squeeze" and "top-it".
We spent some of our week completing the Universal Screening, required testing for our school district. This screening coupled with classroom based assessments enables us to individualize for students learning.
Wednesday September 3rd from 6:30-7:30 Mrs. Wilhelm and I will be holding a First Grade Parent meeting for all parents to learn about the baggie book program, homework, and new enVision MATH. Child care will be provided.
