Monday started the new quarter and new exploration classes! Students have been studying nouns this week. We have also continued to focus on writing small moment stories and adding details. Our next Word Wall Check will be on Friday October 31st.
With the Halloween holiday approaching, I wanted to give a few reminders about some of the festivities. The fall Carnival is being hosted by the 7/8th grade classes for grades K-6 and younger siblings. It will be held on Friday, October 24th from 5:00-8:00. There will be a variety of game booths and activities, a cake walk, and food available for purchase. Students are welcome to come in costume. The Barnette school-wide dress-up day for students will also be on Friday, October 24th. Since we will be walking back on a field trip students will need regular clothes to wear in the afternoon and ALL warm gear! Student will have a Pajama day on Friday, October 31st. Also, there will be no F.I.F. on Oct. 31st. Students will go to their exploration classes in the afternoon.
We have enjoyed reading books by Nancy Carlson. I Like Me! was a fun story and we filled out a story map tell all the things we like about ourselves. For homework this week students will bring home a project that makes an I Like Me! show and tell box that tells about themselves. They can put something small that tells something about them and you can bring it in during conferences or next Wednesday when students return from the break. Conference reminders will be sent out in the homework folders as well.
Students are continuing Topic 4, which covers more addition and subtraction facts using ten-frames and doubles. Some key vocabulary words that will be used during the unit are: less than and near double.
