Happy Spring! What a terrific week we had in room 167 sharing and reading fables together. We kicked off our new unit of study by making our very own fables folders and adding favorite tales like The Fox and the Stork, The Ant and the Dove, and The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg. We also learned that fables can be short, teach a moral or a lesson, and usually have animals as characters. This week for homework students will retell one of the fables we read in class and next week we are looking forward to writing our own "soon to be classic" fables! In math we took Topic 10 test and will skip to Topic 15 Measuring Length, to practice that skill. We enjoyed watching a Brainpop video and talking about standard and non standard ways to measure. This unit will provide many hands-on activities for students. Check your child's homework folder for the the Home-School Connection sheet that includes a fun measurement hunt. Today we enjoyed many familiar tunes played by the Army Band. Next Friday, April 1st we are headed to Fort Wainwright pool. We'll need at least 2 female and 2 male chaperones to help students in the locker rooms. Please email me if you are available for this trip. Students began their new explorations this week and have until April 1st to make a change. Please see Jen Delzer in the front office if your child's exploration is not a good fit. Report cards were included in this week's homework folder. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me. The end of the year can get pretty busy and I want to help families plan ahead. We will need volunteers for our upcoming FIF trips to Holm Town Nursery on April 22nd from 11:15-12:15 and Tanana Lakes 2nd Grade Picnic May 13th. We'll need hot dog roasters, face painters, and walking path leaders. | Student Spotlight |
