Welcome back! Students were excited to be back in the classroom after the Thanksgiving break. Today we took our word wall check and you can find our new word list on the 2nd grade word wall page here. A parent in the classroom asked if our class would like to help with a community service project for a family who lost everything in a housing accident and the class agree they would like to help out! Here is the information we have: 6-year old boy: size 8/10, shoe size 5, 4-year old girl: size 7/8, shoe size 3 They lost practically everything in the accident, to include clothes, toys, and books. Anything that is collected will be greatly appreciated. We will collect from December 1-4th and try to get the items delivered to them on Friday. Thank you! Tomorrow will be our Topic 5 math test. Today we reviewed concepts and students corrected many of their Topic 5 work mats and placed them in their mailboxes to take home for further practice. If you would like to study with your child tonight please review the following concepts 10 more, 10 less, even and odd numbers, place value (3 tens, 2 ones=32), greater than, less than, or equal to, and numbers before and after. We will begin Topic 6 Mental Addition on Wednesday. We began a new author study with Lillian Hoban. Mrs. Hoban illustrated or wrote over 100 books during her lifetime. She is most known for the Frances series. Over the past few weeks students enjoyed listening to Mrs. Ross an Inupiaq from the Kobuk River area who spoke of her travels and how times have changed since she was a young girl. Using the ipads to retell the story Where is the Green Sheep? by Mem Fox after making a wooly sheep themselves, was a project the class was keen on. The PTA Box Top contest ends on December 4th so send in all your Box Tops before this Friday to help our class win a pizza party! | Second Grade Spotlight |
