Activities and stories over the past three weeks have focused on Mo Willems a terrifically funny children's author who I'm sure by now you've hear a little something about... Student's have enjoyed finding the Pigeon, one of the books characters, around the room as well as learning to draw him. We just finished our final drafts for our latest class book Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the .... They also enjoyed making stick puppet characters for Knuffle Bunny a Cautionary Tale , retelling the story and recording and posting it on Seesaw. I added Pigeonpresents to the home page websites if your child wants to explore more of this author's books. We need green material to make a "green screen" for our next video adventures so if anyone has some extra they would like to donate just drop it by the classroom.
In math we finished up Unit 4: Addition and Subtraction Facts to 12 and took the Topic Test. Thursday we began Unit 5: Addition Facts to 20. Today we took time to practice odd and even numbers & play Roll & Write to practice addition facts & double facts. We also took the online assessment for Redbird a new instructional resource for math learning online. Check out this padlet and the student login section to have your child learn with Redbird at home. Just have them use their student number for both the username and password.
Over the past two weeks students have been reading and reviewing the 28 word wall words that we have introduced throughout the year. On Monday students will quiz each other and highlight the words they need to practice. Look for this sheet to come home in their Monday folder. We will take a mid year assessment with all the words before Christmas break so students should continue to study the words they can't read, write, and spell. The new words that will be introduced next week can be found here.
