I am sure your child shared with you that Ms. Jones returned to our classroom on her crutches Monday. Everyone was excited to see her and eager to get a chance to work and learn with her again.
Exploration catalogs were sent home last week with students and hopefully you had a chance to look over the classes and make selections with your child. You may send the pink sheets back to school with your child in the homework folder tomorrow, although they are not due until May14th.. Thank you to those families who have already returned them.
Last week we started reading Aesop's Fables. We learned that fables are short, contain a moral or a lesson, and usually have animals as the characters. Students will continue to discuss, read, and learn more about fables over the next weeks. Karlan Bachmann will be my substitute while I attend the International Reading Conference in New Orleans. Today we had fun reading my boarding passes, figuring out how long the flight would be, and finding were New Orleans was on the map using the Google Earth app. We were surprised to see the abbreviation for Louisiana was LA. Our class is full of proficient travelers! Although I will not return until May 15th, I will continue to monitor email while I am away.
On May 16th the PTA is sponsoring the end of the year picnic. We are in need of volunteers to do some face painting! If you would like to help please email me or add a comment on this post. Also let the office know or email the PTA at [email protected] if you would be willing to serve food, grill hot dogs and burgers, or supervise on the playground. Our class has been assigned to bring paper products. Students with the last name starting with the letters A-J should send in an extra large package of paper plates. Students with the last name starting with K-Z should send in two large container of forks. Please send these in as soon as possible so that we can see if other supplies will be needed.
The PTA will be sponsoring a book fair at Barnes & Noble on Saturday May 10th. If you are able please drop by and support the fair which help the PTA be able to support our students in their endeavors! The bookstore is always a great place to pick up gifts for that special graduate!
