Here is a message from Ms. Brice ~ For my social studies methods class at UAF I taught a leadership unit. Throughout the week we had many class discussions on the different qualities of a leader. The three main features we discussed were perseverance, put first things first and think win-win. On Wednesday, I had the students participate in an activity where they were asked to finish the sentence stem, "A good leader…" All of the students worked really hard and did an amazing job on this activity. I have decided to make their work into a classroom book. Students will be able to read this book during read to self time and share it around the classroom.
In math, students have been practicing doubles facts, near doubles facts, and subtraction (0 less, 1 less, & 2 less). We also began to work on solving addition problems quickly & accurately with timed math fact practices. Students also estimated how many pumpkin seeds are were in our pumpkin. We discussed ways to count our seeds and decided to make groups of ten. Students created a graph to vote for what we should bake once we roast the insides!
Cheers for Our Volunteers! During the 1st quarter we had faithful friends regularly helping out in Room 167. We appreciate immensely the time each has given to our learning: Mrs. Thayer, Mr. van den Berg, Mrs. Bredlie, and Mrs. Lewis. Additionally, many family members have joined us for an FIF outing, sent in items for class projects and for Exhibit Night. Those of you who are PTA members make amazing things happen at Barnette every day! THANK YOU ALL!
