Thank you to Mrs. Ganguli and her mother, Andy, for chaperoning on our trip to the Fairbanks Children's Museum at their new location. Students enjoyed the many play centers at FCM. If you have the opportunity to drop by for the day their new space is very inviting with a snack room, water table, and work working area.
We have continued our animal research and are preparing to publish our work. Students enjoyed our whole class research done through read alouds. They used the research they gathered to support an opinion about the most important animal fact that they learned. This month, students have really wrapped their minds around opinions and the process of accepting other people's opinions as well as supporting their own.
We are now focusing on measurement using nonstandard units such as cubes, hands, and other smaller items. We are also learning to estimate sizes or quantities. To support them in this topic, be thinking about the many ways we measure things in our daily lives, such as baking, and simply point them out to your student. Also consider having your student estimate the size of grocery bills, how much food to make for a group or estimate how many toys/books they have before counting them all. We will take the Topic 12 test on Thursday, April 2nd.
