Friday In Fairbanks
On Friday, October 7th students will be staying at Barnette for their F.I.F. First grade will be exploring Alaskan animal kits from the Department of Fish and Game. Parents are welcome to join.
Exhibit night is approaching quickly! First quarter exhibit night will be held on Tuesday, October 11th. For those new to Barnette, exhibit night is an event that celebrates the end of the quarter and is a time to showcase what students have learned in their exploration classes. Visiting exploration classes and enjoying time with other families is a highlight. Kindergarten, first and second grades will be hosting this event. A blue flyer was sent home with your child on Friday giving specific information about volunteer options and food donations! Our class is running low on snacks and would appreciate healthy donations such as string cheese, ranch dressing (for our carrots), or peanut butter crackers. Individually wrapped items make it easier for first graders to serve themselves, making snack time in the classroom more independent. | Student SpotlightSophia is 6 years old and her favorite meal is spaghetti. She would like to travel to New York to visit her aunt. Her favorite sport is basketball. Her favorite part about basketball is running. She has two favorite animals. They are a cheetah and a huskie. On the weekend she likes to go to her grandmas house and play with her dogs. Sophia's favorite book is, "My Father's Dragon." |
Donald Crews is our new featured author. Students enjoyed comparing the texts of favorites like Freight Train, Sailaway, and Flying. We noticed how many of his books have a transportation theme and that he enjoys putting himself in his books. Our new chapter book, Chicken Squad has everyone wondering what the squirrel saw that frightened him. We used our new "Listening and Learning Sketch Books" to make our predictions. On Friday students enjoyed using watercolors to make pages for our first class book, "The More We Get Together"! We will begin these new word wall words Monday.
The Children's Museum with all of the hands-on interactive stations is always a delightful place to take children. Many students put on their "engineering hats" while building with recycled materials, others played at the water table, or navigating airflow at the air maze. Check out pictures from our trip below.
